How to keep a skin fade clean between visits
How often to come back for a skin fade in Glendale, what a $14 line-up covers, and how to not wreck the blend at home. JayJ's, 51st Ave.
A skin fade grows out in a straight line: the skin fills in, then the blend gets muddy. If you got the cut at JayJ's on N 51st Ave, the cheapest way to stay sharp is a plan — not a panic shave at the bathroom mirror.
Skin Fade is $35 and 30 minutes. Edge Up / Line Up is $14 and 15 minutes. Most people do a full fade every two or three weeks and a line-up in between if they have an event.
Between chairs
Wash with a light shampoo. Keep the skin on the sides from getting ashy — a drop of lotion, not hair oil on the fade. Brush the top the way it was cut. If you wear a cap all day in Glendale heat, give the line-up a look before you decide you need a full recut.
Do not “fix” the blend with a guard you guessed. That is how a $35 fade becomes a high bald patch you then pay to correct.
When to walk back in
The line is gone. The neck is fuzzy. The mid-fade turned into a step. That is a recut. If only the forehead line is soft and the blend still reads, book the $14 line-up.
